Monte Vista Crane Festival/Migration-March 12th

Every year the valley gets flooded with Sandhill Cranes on their spring migration, to celebrate this they have a special festival, where they show a movie about birds, and having different speakers talk about conservation. We didn’t participate in any of these events, but we did go see the cranes at the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge. They stay the night at the Refuge, then leave in the morning to feed in the farmers fields all over the valley. As you drive around you can see and hear them calling. Then at sunset they come back to the refuge.
